BBD inspired design and husband knit his first hat!

the title of the post covers it
have been remiss on posting
summertime has me still knitting on previous posts sweater

but completed a BBD inspired design
got the idea from the joyuex noel pattern book
just a mix of ideas to come up with a birth sampler
also took some patterns i.e. the bunnies from a prairie schooler pattern

it was accurately and beautifully fabric framed by my friend Sandie alias quilter extraordinaire
my sewing skills are not exact----Sandie makes things perfect and even!

Hubby has knitted his first hat all i can say is "wow when are you making me one? :-)

he is already working on hat #2

My apologies to for not posting or commenting this past month, sheer laziness in stitching too!

So many unread items on google reader that i just sailed through over 1000 posts in total.Cannot read and comment properly but am caught up and will try to be better.

for BBD SAL not many stitches....am making a baby sampler with the joyeux noel sampler letters and designs

i should be done next week.

otherwise have been knitting

completed first pair of socks last month:

but they are cosy :-)

then made a few dishcloths and a facecloth

am starting my first sweater

it is already hot here in Texas but i might get it complete by fall!

then DH finished his gray scarf last month

thats all from my world of handiwork

happy puttering in the yard and enjoying longer warmer days.

hello friends
yes i am still capable of posting

but have been busy
traveled with hubby and DS#3
to washington dc area for 4 days
of sightseeing

DS3 was hoping for a basketball
game with the president
did not happen
this is as close as he got in the airport

went

to the maryland wool

and sheep festival

while there

hot- crowded,

but fun

bought a few fun skeins

THURSday was BBD SAL post day....late again

but complete ..............

DS#2 had his 21st bday
so we celebrated with family and sweethearts
his girlfriend made a delicious snickers
cheesecake

and today i finished the bbd bird into a needlebook for a friend

have a nice weekend

well i had trouble with blogger
but now all is working again...no reason that was repaired on my end....\
tried to upload photo below as new header
no success there
maybe next week.......

the day to share BBD SAL progress is thursday but i will be away from computer for a few days
so am updating today.....little progress but already looking at what will be next project.

i know the zinnia is from the nursery

but the seedlings are from the gift

DH finished scarf for niece....we will be visiting with SIL and her family this wknd

it looks and feels great........this photo taken while it was being blocked in spare room.

but I have begun Bird in Hand
the talented ladies of BBD SAL keep me inspired and motivated

I was going to stitch pink on brown....but chose scarlet and chartreuse instead

something different- we shall see how it turns out-

DH has come along way on knitting a scarf for one of his nieces

I finished my first sock.......I know it needs a partner but I had fun wearing it .....

good thing they sell socks in stores or i would wrap bags around my feet as slowly as I knit...

also the first rose in the garden, with the first sock of the season ;-)

and my next BBD SAL choice.......

but planning to stitch it in pink
on beige or brown linen

i also am liking this simple sampler idea from a BBD quilt book

not much progress here

Okay I received a DNF (did not finish), on my attempt to finish this sampler by the end of the Olympics.

I am still needing roof of house and tree to right of house....but before that
i decided the turquoise base to the basket of flowers required a color change
and have to repeat that first....so my next post should have this complete...sure-sure.

but I did make a dishcloth: (this pattern is from a blog titled kayla k's thrifty ways)

finished knitting another scarf ....picture later, it is being blocked

and a little freebie finish from The Sampler Girl blog site http://atthehoneysuckletree.blogspot.com/
I used this as a gift tag......cute and simple....fun stitch.

sweet...also the lemon tree is blooming next to stitching chair.....smells wonderful

and although there are plenty of projects unfinished, I could not help myself and had to start a

sampler that I ordered though ABC stitch therapy ....on sale!

Doubtful but will try to complete by the end of the Olympics....that will be my olympic goal.

of course i checked out 2 easy reads at the library

(m.c. beaton mysteries make me chuckle,agatha raisin is like watching ' i love lucy')

(and the white horse is a juvenile book, but sometimes those are the best told tales)

that will cut into stitching time

but the sun is finally shining and the birds are singing

hooray.....i think a little reading outdoors is in order

A weekend of satisfying completions:
DH casts off the final stitch on his first knitted blanket, for nephew due in March:

I completed my first pair of mittens, now on to socks!

Also completed the BBD heart, filled with dried lavender, ready to hang on gift bag for the upcoming weekend.

One more little finish below for a friend who is about to tackle chemotherapy.....she is a lovely person

whom I wish strength and all the good.

DH is busier than I am, his progress on
nephews baby blanket is going gangbusters.
He even worked in 5 stars in the big green middle stripe.
"To learn something different"
So I have titled it 5 star blanket.

My brother who caught the knitting bug at the same time this past holiday, just emailed me photos of his latest finish...a prayer shawl for a friend of their family
who is struggling with illness......
lovely model is my brothers' wife...he said that they went to gift the shawl and
it was a special experience:

as for my self not much to show

stitching a bit, filling in tree trunks and hillsides....eep and ugh! like being in the doldrums,

but i will row through to more letters and the big bird in the middle of this sampler:

am also working on a small undecided project for mother of nephew due:

p.s. am also reading a sweet book titled "The Scent of Water" by Elizabeth Goudge
it is an older book published 1963
if you are a jane austen fan , i believe you would enjoy this... even though the era is different
i have read other books of hers over the years and they are aways enjoyable
check it out...you usually can at the library ;-)

After a busy holiday season with many visitors,guests, and some traveling scattered throughout, the house is back to normal.....whatever that is......
Heres what was completed last week, my first knit pattern ever, a scarf pattern titled "Just Enough Ruffles"

it was fairly easy...
of course i had to email
questions to the designer
twice, but she was most helpful,

DH has been saying he might like to learn to knit

We all had fun with the nutty knitting circle......spoke with my brother yesterday he says he is onto washcloth #2 doing a "seed stitch"....and planning a scarf after that with an andalusian stitch.......I feel the mojo.

.....just completed, all I need to do is make a corded hanger for these 2, they are to be gifted this weekend:

On the above I used the letters from the sampler in the BBD joyuex noel pattern book.

I wanted to share this next ornament from last year, because it is one of my favorite, I loved stitching the alphabet with the thread ....I think the thread was called fiesta...it seemed so non christmas in color and the picture does not do it justice , but trust me it is perfect with the snowman and the linen, from Homespun Elegance....Snowman Sampler:

My first time to stitch 28 ct 1/2 stitch over 1 thread, let me say I am a fan,
the colors in this are perfect too.....(dmc which makes me happy, because it is at hand) and the chart and notations are so helpful for those with eyes that like bright daylight (if you know what I mean) ;0)

You did not even know I went, but yes 3 days in Chicago, bundled up in mittens and coats,
DH and I just went for fun and holiday shopping and sight seeing..........LOveD IT !

While in chicago Melissa received her fair and square exchange.
so I can post these pics of what I made for her from 2008 JCS christmas ornaments by Blackbird Designs:

We decided to gift each other the finishing of our squares as a christmas extra...

this was a fun exchange and a delight to stitch.

They had a football game to attend that evening
we all brought food, roomates parents came too........

This past friday the 13th was my lucky day !

I had already experienced the "Miss America" excitement when I read I had won last week,

good friends, walking, and stitching

This weekend was spent in San Antonio with our dear friends ..... she and I first met in 2cnd grade.......then our hubbys were post high school roomates.....crazy fun ever since.
We participated in the rock n roll 1/2 marathon
dh ran...the rest of us walked.....woke at 0430 am
We are smiling because our feet are still happy then!

34,000 participants

ran past the alamo...........

but I still had time to stitch as sweet friend cooked in the kitchen like a mega hostess

while I asked if there was anything I could do to help btwn stitches:

Winter Woolens was a fun stitch, finished early last week: another one that needs finishing.

Finished wash cloth #2 on Friday, LNS owner taught me to crochet around the edge.

The actual cloth is misshapen....but it was fun, (soap hides some flaws :0) .....)

I started knitting a scarf...more pics later....

batteries obtained

Well I have not posted
due to sheer procrastination on obtaining batteries for the camera,
but we are now in working order again.
(back up batteries too)
It requires lots of pics to get a non shaky one (I can really use up the energy)!
Frame 5x7 found for $5.86 at department store...

so that is complete and ready for christmas gifting

and knitting is progressing one useable washcloth in sink,

and washcloth #2 in progress....I know white....silly me

but I thought it would help to learn to knit with a solid.....live and learn

all righty, then a lovely surprise visit from DS and his girlfriend on Sat

they gifted me with these

and their lovely company!

I plan to stitch the beard momentarily,

I am going to use wisper thread for the beard...we shall see how that transpires.

Then knitting class at 2pm at LNS...will also purchase a star button for Santa then, so he can be all jazzed up.

this is my first stitched item, I believe I was @ 8 years old.

My grandmother "Omi" lived in Germany, she mailed me a christmas gift of threads

and a stamped cloth as we had just been stationed back toTexas.

I was happy to have them,but recall thinking "I could go play",

esp when warmer weather came and my Mom said you really should get this done...

(spoken with her accent and well meaning direction)

so I did ...looks like completion and playtime were more important than neat stitches

but i still have and use this :

I spied these lovely pumpkins made by Patti at http://windingvine.blogspot.com/.
Ordered them on Mon or Tues...they arrived in my mailbox yesterday.

There were 2 pumpkins, but we had guests, and it was like a mini fall fest opening the package together last night. I gifted the smaller pumpkin to her.

So even the package opening is a nice memory, and let me say it was packaged so beautifully,with an artisic card , bright orange tissue paper , lovely ribbon and autumnal trim....ahhhh

(of course i plowed right in without taking a photo
beforehand)

Done with the Glad Tidings remake, I am pleased with the outcome.
Plus it fits in a 5x7 frame ....now to go shop for that....
I still plan to do the actual chart correctly one day...

I am still working on the photo taking , bear with me.

Completed one weekend goal......halloween costume, will deliver to middle son and his girlfriend sometime midweek. She seemed delighted with photo, now crossing my fingers hoping it fits.

Off to jog a little and build up an appetite for chicken and apple sausages on the grill.
Happy Halloween week, here is a doormat I have had since the late 1980's ....remember when these were
a popular craft.....this one was made for my home by a friend.....I have always been amazed at how clean it has kept .

It looks to be a glorious weekend weatherwise here in central Texas

Lots of crafty irons in the fire , not much complete but here is an idea:

merry christmas may be paired with this red and white plaid to become a stocking or pillow,

then I must complete this costume for middle sons girlfriend, as they are attending renaissance festival on halloween night, the only handstitching going on there is some basting....just the vest left to go....it shall be complete by sunday evening.........

Also, I continue to attempt to learn to knit the same washcloth over and over again......is this futile?
Perhaps, but wouldn't it be great to knit your own socks like Staci over at http://snippetsandstash.blogspot.com/ and Jill at http://purplepeacockjill.blogspot.com/.
Maybe I could make two washcloths and tie them on my feet......gotta have hope... :0)

and a quick pic of a sampler finished early this year, January I think...sometimes a project is completed.

Best of all today at 8 am I went to see orthopedic doctor for plantar fasciitis and he injected my heel, and it feels like heaven to have the pain subside.
Hubby and I are signed up for a half marathon gallop in San Antonio the middle of next month...I just lope along no fast pace, but i would like to endure the course of the run....we shall see, I have hope..
Even if I walk the whole thing it will be good.

a lovely day here
cooler temps
high i think in the upper 70's
perfect for windows open tea and stitching and perusing stitchy blogs
and for my dear friend sandie to come over and do needlwork
good company is always a gift

first we had a lovely lunch and tea with dessert at friar tucks down town
then we came back the windows were open and we stitched and shared our latest news and thoughts
i made a little more progress on the shepeherds bush remake- see photos
then at about 3pm (as i was on call for the hospital until that time)
we made some delicious progress on a chocolate orange and wine

contents almost all digested but some evidence in bottom photo

it called for a real pumpkin stem
but for lack of same i just twisted a fold of fabric and sewed it into place

finally cooler and damp weather here in texas
so a nice precursor to fall

sort of glad tidings

okay ....this is the objective

however, i started stitching over one it was looking great

until

i arrived at the white thread.................OH NO

and of course as i was stitching along i also realized

the charm of an angels flute

would be longer than the angel on an over one stitch

so i have just turned the q snaps sideways and will use the motifs to arrive at my own version

but i have another piece of linen to complete the original.......hmmmm maybe next year

i have the day off with dh

we are off to round top antiquues fair

he is so excited....ha ha

we have never been but sounds interesting

have a great weekend

primitive pattern turned sampler

i really like the stacy nash patterns
this one was titled play in the dirt
i added alphabet
and a pot of flowers instead of a shrub
and it became a garden sampler
completed it last autumn
but have not framed or finished it yet

i am working on shepherds bush glad tidings at present but i messed up and tried to do it over one

not good for the eyes

and when i got to the white thread....oh my....i gave up

and am fashioning it into a small sampler
